Quad Skillz is the foundation for skill progression that is performed in a quadrant. Quad Skillz is ideal for teaching Net/Wall game units but may also be utilized in other physical education categories such as target, invasion, and fielding/striking. Students are divided into groups and work together to progress through skills within a particular sport or activity. Each group will perform skill tasks within a quadrant setting (much like the old school 4 square court).
Instead of competing against one another, students work together as a team to progress from Novice to Intermediate, and then Intermediate to Advanced. These skill progressions are performed in a game type environment, but can take the place of formal and informal assessments. Each group is given criteria to meet and when they feel they are ready, can perform for the teacher in lieu of a formal assessment. Once the group successfully completes all of the criteria, they may move on to the next level. A detailed example of a Volleyball 4 Square lesson is provided.
